Compulsory conformity describes when the price for egalitarianism is peer pressure to sacrifice individuality and conform to the wishes of the majority. The classic case is the fictional society of Anarres.
It has been argued that the same problem befell Çatalhöyük, evident by the similarities in appearance of dwellings. However, the diversity of grave goods suggests to some researchers that there was a great degree of individuality.
